Volunteer Re-Registration
This article describes the annual volunteer registration renewal process. This information is current as of November 2011.
Timeline for Registration Renewal Completion
Since the registration renewal process is performed entirely online, it is expected that the process could be completed within a week of the starting date.
- Volunteers will have 60 days to complete the registration renewal process.
- An automatic email reminder will be sent out to volunteers every 3 days up to 10 times or until the process is complete.
- After 60 days, if the volunteer has not completed the registration renewal process, their Global Link record will be marked as "closed," all "affiliations" will be marked "inactive," and access to Global Link will be blocked.
- If your volunteer registration lapses please contact Volunteer Registration to reopen your file at vol.reg@afs.org.
Re-registration Overview
Volunteer re-registration happens on an annual basis. Volunteers will be sent an auto email 60 days before the volunteer registration expiration date.
Steps to Re-register:
- Follow the link in the reminder email to login to your Volunteer Application.
- Review and update your information in the Volunteer Application including e-signing the Volunteer Agreement.
- Submit the Volunteer Application.
- Volunteer Registration staff will review and accept your volunteer application and send you an email with directions on how to complete the annual criminal background check.
- Consent to the annual national criminal background check.
- Volunteer Registration staff will email you that your volunteer registration is renewed for the year when all requirements are met.
Special Re-registration Requirements:
Volunteers under 18: Download and complete the Parental Permission Form from the confidential tab of the Volunteer Application and email it to vol.reg@afs.org.
Volunteers returning to AFS after more than two years: Please provide new personal references when updating your Volunteer Application.
Volunteers without a Social Security number: Require an international search form, which can be found on the confidential tab of the Online Application. Background checks will take longer, up to six weeks to complete.
Compliance Requirements: For some applicants, additional review may be necessary.
Completing an application for volunteer registration does not mean that you have been registered. Applicants will receive a confirmation email indicating completion of the registration process. AFS-USA has the right to determine the suitability of each applicant.
I've Registered. Now What?
Leaders of your team will be contacted that you have re-registered for the year.
