Visiting Teacher Program Mentor Teacher
Responsible to: Visiting Teacher Volunteer Coordinator
General Description: The Visiting Teacher Mentor Teacher is primarily responsible for orientating the Visiting Teacher to the host school as well as assisting with their schedule and with lesson planning.
Time Required:
- 10-20 hours per month depending upon your Team
- Length of service time : 1 year minimum commitment

Responsibilities: With the assistance of the Team and Visiting Teacher Volunteer Coordinator, the volunteer in this position is responsible in part for coordinating the following while working within the structure of the Team:
- Orienting the Visiting Teacher to the school and introducing the faculty, administration and students;
- Contacting teachers in your school to arrange for class observation and arranging the Visiting Teacher's schedule, including an initial observation period, followed by an active teaching schedule of up to four hours/classes a day;
- Familiarizing the Visiting Teacher with the methods, materials and curriculum of your school;
- Assisting the Visiting Teacher with developing appropriate presentations, lessons, plans and units;
- Arranging for visits to other elementary, junior and senior high schools;
- Establishing and maintaining a close working relationship with local AFS volunteers and the Visiting Teacher’s Host Family.
