As all of you are most likely watching the news about Egypt, we wanted to post an update on the 11 AFS USA participants currently on program there. Keri Dooley, Chief Government Relations and Sponsored Programs Officer was in contact today with both the Partner Director of AFS Egypt, Sherifa Fayez and Mohag El Sadek, AFS Egypt's Program Director. AFS Egypt has made contact with all of our participants and all are fine. The participants in Egypt are currently on a school break so they do not have any classes and AFS Egypt has told all students to remain in their homes for the time being with their host families. In addition our support staff has been in contact with all of the natural families of these participants to reassure them of their childrens' safety and to let them know that AFS is keeping a close eye on the situation there. At this time, the Embassy has not called for departures of their staff or dependents of their staff. They have echoed the same guidance we have already given to our 11 participants to remain inside their homes with their host families. We will remain in contact with staff in Egypt and at AFS International throughout the weekend to continue assessing the situation and determine if any further may become necessary.
