Understanding & Promoting School Relations- Sending Focused
From AFSWiki
List of 7,500 Schools that received National School Mailing in November, 2010 (Excel File)
When speaking to Educators –
• Introduce yourself
• Introduce AFS with brief history (60 yrs, immersion programs, summer-semester and year, gap year programs, community service and language study)
• Did you receive our mailing? If yes, how is the material made available to students? If no, can I send you our catalog?
• We would like to make sure that students are aware of the study abroad opportunities and the advantages to them in going on a program (college advantage, increased maturity – flexibility – adaptability)
• Can a link to the AFS USA website be placed on your school website? If so, who do we need to speak to about this?
• Can a listing of the scholarship opportunities be made available to students? Global Leaders Scholarships, NSLI, YES program, etc. Speak to them a bit about these scholarships.
• Is there a list of summer opportunities where AFS could be added? Students might be interested in language study or community service.
• (if volunteers are locally available) – can we set up an appointment to have a volunteer visit and speak to students who are interested in study abroad?
• I’ll send you a “blurb” to put in the school bulletin to see if there are interested students.
• We have an eNewsletter for educators with the latest information on programs and scholarships; as well as, intercultural activities that can be shared in a classroom. Would you be interested in signing up for this? I can either send you the link, or enter your email from here. Either way, you’ll have to confirm your interest in receiving the newsletter by responding to the confirmation email you’ll receive.
•[Note, from afsusa.org website: Due to current economic conditions, AFS has made the decision to temporarily suspend the Global Connections program. We are in the process of evaluating whether we can reinstate a more sustainable version of Global Connections. We appreciate your understanding and continued support for international student exchange, and we look forward to working with your school for many years to come. Beginning May 2, 2009: - Nominations will continue to be accepted, but we will no longer offer the $75 program fee discount. - Nominators will not be able to earn new Connection Credits. All Connection Credits previously earned by nominators will be put on hold until AFS can restart the program. We appreciate your understanding and continued support for international student exchange. ]
