US Students Safely Home from Egypt
From AFSWiki
We would like to confirm that the US, along with all AFS students who had been hosted in the Egypt, have safely departed. We would like to thank all of our colleagues who contributed to managing this situation, especially the Participant Support Team who handled the communications with natural parents so very well and reaped a great deal of praise from natural families, and Marilyn Stotts, who organized and led the reentry debriefing for these young people with incredible care and professionalism, and of course, Paula McGrath, whose amazing logistical acumen is always a wonder to behold. The students showed a great deal of appreciation for the many people whom they will never meet who contributed to assisting them during a difficult time.
While we are saddened by the events in Egypt, we are hopeful that there will soon be a return to calm and an even brighter and more vibrant Egypt ahead. In the mean time, our thoughts are with both the students who were so abruptly uprooted from their Egyptian families and are with our Egyptian friends, colleagues and AFS volunteers.
It will take several weeks to be able to analyze the impact of recent events and gauge the trajectory of the situation in Egypt to determine the future of programs in Egypt.
