Overview:

With the new AFS-USA Website launched in September 2010, the Digital Marketing Team announced that it would roll out a second web launch for all volunteer teams to have local websites. This was developed and launched in Fall 2011.

What do AFS Team Websites Offer?

  • More consistency and branding.
  • No web hosting fees.
  • Easy tools to update.
  • Seamless experience for visitors to navigate to online resources on the national site.
  • All teams now have a local team website URL. Please refer to the website directory here.

Five Steps to Get Started:

Here are five easy steps to get your team website up and running:

1) Identify a Team Marketing and Communications Coordinator. Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsible contact person for team site.
  • Adding/removing content,
  • Collaborating with Digital Marketing Staff to keep site fresh.
  • NOTE: There can be multiple team webmasters, but start with identifying one. No advanced web development skills are necessary, but some very basic experience with HTML, web editing and photo enhancing would be helpful.

2) Request administrative login. Email Nick Triolo , Digital Marketing Advisor for a username and password.

3) Add Content! Once you receive your login, you will have the ability to add content, create new pages, and build your team’s online presence. Digital Marketing Advisor Nick Triolo will be sending regular "Team Website Best Practices" communications for tip and tricks on improving your site. Previous messages:

Tips for content: Keep it local! Here are some great ideas for content to add might be: 


  • Local new and events.
  • Cultural resources in your community.
  • Fundraising opportunities.
  • Videos, blogs and/or photos slideshows.
  • Biographies of your local volunteer team.

4) Request a Site Review. Once you are finished adding all of your content, email ntriolo@afs.org for a site review from the Digital Marketing Team. This is a super helpful step to support the work you do.

5) Manage, Update, Create. Once your site is up and running, get creative and utilize this online space to assist in mobilizing volunteers and recruiting host families and sending students.
