Handbook changes

  • Colliding icebergs at post-arrival (Robin, TBD)
  • HF Maslow’s hierarchy – guidelines for welcome families (Joann, Catherine) (Done)
    • Include visual, note that Welcome families should involve/enroll stus per the new checklist in the hostfam handbook.

Replication and Future Projects

  • Pull data for all hostfams except Germany (Robin - done Dec) - This is from the CSEs for now.
  • Survey non-Germany HF's (Robin, tbd)
    • Created HB for Austria by pulling Germany-specific information from the German HB. (Lynn, waiting final editing)
  • Draft letter of introduction (talks about big project, small project, etc.) (Robin)
  • Investigate source of funds from outside of AFS (Cia)
    • Joann gave Cia a list of intercultural organizations, foundations for possible funding. Eventually post this list as a resource for returnees/grad stus seeking funding needed to implement project. (done Robin)
    • Cia has two returnees that would like to do the project, one would be able to get $2000 to do so - ECU and Swiss German
    • Might want to look into/have "interns" look into the Foundation Center in NYC (16th Ave.) They offer free grant writing courses.
  • Work on proposal for large countries (Lynn)
  • Check at grad schools like NYU to see if there are returnees there who might be interested (Joann)
    • NYU Master stus have to complete an internship as part of their Masters degree and they focus on an area - Latin America, etc. Locate potential candidates through these area studies.

Other

  • Online quizzes/info for host families (long-term) (Robin, TBD)
  • More rates – ER rates, analyze support issues (Catherine - done except for Germany) [also talk to Germany
    • Al noted that CB Germany ER rates (in his AT) are twice that of other programs and that most of the ER's seem to be grads. We could look into this for other countries and see if there are any trends. Robin will share data with Al.
  • Email Germany regarding role of homework in US (Catherine)
