Below are the system requirements for running the online training modules. If you have trouble accessing or completing the online orientation you may need to update your browser, update your Flash player, allow pop-up windows, or enable cookies. See below for more information.

Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 7 or better

Allow Pop-up Windows

The training includes links to several other Web pages, including many here on the AFS Wiki. You will need to set your browser to allow pop-up windows in order access these pages.

If you are using Internet Explorer:

  1. Go to the Tools menu.
  2. Select Pop-up Blocker. (If this isn't listed, you have a third-party popup blocker. See below.)
  3. Click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  4. In the Pop-up Blocker Settings window, type www.afsusatraining.org as the "Address of Web site to allow" and click the Add button.
  5. Close the Pop-up Blocker Settings window and all Internet Explorer windows.

If you are using Firefox:

  1. On Windows, open the Options dialog under the Tools menu. On Macintosh, open the Preferences dialog under the Firefox menu.
  2. Click the Web Features icon on the left.
  3. Here you should see a checkmark next to the option to block popup windows. Click the Allowed Sites button to the right of it.
  4. Type www.afsusatraining.org as the "address of web site," then click the Allow button
  5. Click OK in the Allowed Sites screen, then click OK again for the Options/Preferences screen.

Third-party popup blockers:
There are many third-party popup blockers, including some antivirus software, that could be affecting your ability to use this training. To address this:

  1. Determine what popup blocker you are using
  2. Find its list of allowed sites and add www.afsusatraining.org.


Enable Cookies

Internet Explorer 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 9.x:

  1. Click on the Tools-menu.
  2. Select Internet Options in the menu - a new window opens.
  3. Click on the Privacy tab near the top of the window.
  4. Move the slider so that it is on one of the levels below Medium High (including Medium, Low, Accept All Cookies).
  5. Save changes by clicking OK.

Internet Explorer 5.x:

  1. Click on the Tools-menu in Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on the Internet Options item in the menu - a new window opens.
  3. Click on the Security tab near the top of the window.
  4. Click on the Custom Level... button near the bottom of the window.
  5. Scroll down to Cookies in the new dialog, and set both "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" and "Allow per-session cookies to Enable".
  6. Save changes by clicking OK.

Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Click on the Tools-menu in Mozilla.
  2. Click on the Options item in the menu - a new window opens.
  3. Click on the Privacy tab.
  4. Expand the Cookies section.
  5. Check the Enable cookies and Accept cookies normally checkboxes.
  6. Save changes by clicking OK.


Computer and Connection Speed

Home Connection Speed:

  • DSL or better recommended, best performance will be on 5 MB (5000 kbps) or higher broadband

Online Connection Speed Test

Minimum Computer / Processor Speed:

  • Windows - Intel Pentium II 450 MHz, AMD Athalon 600 MHz or faster processor (or equivalent), 256 MB of RAM or better
  • Mac - PowerPC G3 500 MHz or faster processor, 256 MB of RAM or better
