Sponsored Programs Cultural Resources for YES Countries

During this month of August, the AFS community will be welcoming students from 39 YES countries.

In order to better prepare those who work closely with students such as cluster coordinators, liaisons and support volunteers, Sponsored Programs has posted country profiles for 33 of these countries on the wiki. The profiles can be accessed in the password protected section of the wiki at YES Country Cultural Resource Sheets.

These profiles, created by our lead grantee, American Councils, with the support of all the organizations recruiting the YES participants on the ground, provide a map of each country with some basic statistics, as well as some information on schools (school system, school relationships and rules), extracurricular activities, as well as family dynamics and personal interactions, hygiene, religion and holidays.

Because these country resources attempt to provide a glimpse into the students’ background, they are not all inclusive and might not represent the exact background of each individual from that country but rather convey the general context present in the country.
