Overall Objective

The Sponsored Programs Advisory Group will provide input and guidance to the SP Department, strive to promote SP priorities throughout the AFS community and serve as a resource to the volunteer network furthering the AFS staff and volunteer partnership.

Specific Objectives

  • Strengthen the infrastructure for mobilizing advocacy for SP
  • Identify ways to engage more volunteers with SP
  • Advise, consult and provide input to SP staff on matters of significance
  • Communicate SP opportunities to the larger AFS community
  • Nurture the recognition of blended programs (FLEX/AFS, YES/AFS, CB/AFS, NSLI-Y/AFS) as mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Foster an understanding of all Sponsored Programs as aligned with the AFS mission

AFS Volunteers

  • Patti Davis, Director, Inbound Sponsored Programs
  • Keri Dooley, Chief Government Relations and Sponsored Programs Officer
  • Phil Gordon, Support Manager, Eastern Region
  • Rick Landrum, Director, Outbound Sponsored Programs
  • Caren Marre, Cluster Development Coordinator for Sponsored Programs

Method of Election/Appointment

  • The Sponsored Programs Advisory group is organized by the Sponsored Programs Department. Membership on the advisory group is by invitation to volunteers nominated.
  • The volunteers will include a member of the National Council.
  • Volunteer members shall provide broad geographic representation from within the AFS community.
  • When possible, SP returnees or their parents or SP alums shall be included.

Committee Term

Members are asked to serve a term of three years.

Methodology

  • The committee will meet by phone conference at least once a month.
  • There will be regular email correspondence.
  • The progress and outcomes of this committee will be regularly communicated to cluster coordinators and to volunteers in leadership positions utilizing the following:

  2. AFS-USA In-box
  3. AFS-USA Website
  4. AFS Volunteer Blog
  5. Coming Together Newsletter
  • Additional or emergency meetings may be called as needed.

Accountability

The Sponsored Programs Advisory Group will be accountable to the National Council and to the Sponsored Programs Department.
