September 2011 Everyone Ready Volunteer Management Topic now available: Designing Work for Today's Volunteers

The latest Everyone Ready® online volunteer management training topic, Designing Work for Today's Volunteers became available on Monday, September 19. All AFS-USA volunteers and staff can access the monthly Everyone Ready® topics online, via the "Resources" tab in Global Link.

This seminar helps you identify and define tasks for volunteers that benefit the organization, provide the volunteer with a significant and appealing way to make a positive contribution, and still fit within the abilities of today's time-challenged population.

Learning Objectives

After completing this seminar and discussing its content, participants will be able to:

• Understand the importance that volunteers attach to the specific aspects of the work they will be asked to do and the challenges facing today's volunteers even when they wish to support a cause
• Understand what elements of work may interest a volunteer and how interests may differ among volunteers
• Explore different methods of developing tasks through which volunteers may make a positive contribution
• Be creative in designing a wide range of volunteer activities to meet both the needs of the organization/clients and the interests of many types of volunteers

This topic will be the main Everyone Ready topic through Sunday, October 16. On Monday October 19, the new topic, "It Takes Two to Tango: Building Successful Relationships Between Volunteers and Paid Staff," will launch. At that time, the "Designing Work for Today's Volunteers" topic will be moved to the Archived Topics section of the "Everyone Ready" main page.
