Sending Recruitment Volunteer
The Sending Recruitment volunteer helps promotes outbound program opportunities within a defined community at various levels. The Sending Recruitment volunteer coordinates communication with outbound applicants and their sending families and the AFS local organization/s, helping applicants through the application process.
Responsible to: Team Sending Coordinator or Chapter Sending Coordinator
Works with: Team and Chapter Volunteers
Time Required:
- Peak time: 2-5 hours/week and non-peak: 1 hour/week
Training/Resources Provided by AFS:
- Ongoing support from experienced volunteers in the Team
- Resources - such as marketing materials and guidance for frequently asked questions - from Regional Service Center and Admissions
- Peer-to-peer training and/or mentoring available from experience volunteers in most locations
Responsibilities: (can include some or all of the following activities)
- Ensure as many people as possible in the community are aware of the programs and the benefits of going abroad with AFS
- Set a personal sending goal, such as 2 students abroad for the upcoming year, and work towards that goal.
- Assist applicants with the application process, help ensure they are preparing for the experience
- Contact schools in a defined area providing Career Centers, Guidance Offices and Foreign Language Teachers with catalogs and posters
- Facilitate Info Events for students (this could be IYW, but it could also be after school or evening informational events)
- Contact local area community based organizations, houses of worship and international/intercultural agencies to increase AFS visibility and to schedule AFS presentations where possible
- Communicate regularly with Team or Chapter Sending Coordinator
- Check-in with families who currently have a student abroad
- Follow-up with students upon their return to the U.S.
