Responsible to:

Time required:

  • Average of 5 – 15 hrs. / month depending upon needs of SAGe
  • Length of service time: up to 2 years for Volunteer members; up to 1 year for Volunteer At Large member(s); at the discretion of the National Director - Outbound Programs, for Staff members

Competencies Required:

  • Volunteer members: significant experience in AFS Sending related activities in their chapter or team or a recent returnee.
  • Staff members: part of AFS Outbound Programs (or a relevant organizational position, e.g. with Sponsored Programs or Volunteer Development)
  • Passion for the AFS Mission
  • Ability to look at things from National as well as local perspective
  • Comfortable working with email and AFS databases (i.e. Wiki, Global Link)
  • Familiar with Sending Training available on AFS Global Link
  • Well organized
  • Developed relationship and team-building skills
  • Keeps commitments
  • Communicates effectively: promotes initiatives and distributes information when needed

Works with:

  • Other SAGe members
  • Team or Chapter Leadership
  • AFS-USA Outbound Programs Staff
  • Volunteers

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in one one-hour SAGe meeting per month. Required to notify chair if attendance at a meeting will not be possible a week in advance of meeting. Members absent more than two monthly meetings in a six month period will be considered inactive and be replaced on the SAGe.
  • Lead or participate in short-term SAGe task forces or committees.
  • Explore and implement ideas regarding improving Outbound Programs in AFS-USA.
  • Create documents, processes, proposals, and comment on those of others.
  • Create communication to be shared with AFS-USA volunteers though the Sending Update or Coming Together Newsletter.
  • Contribute to the content and/or lead portions of the National Sending Conference.
  • Familiarize yourself with the content of the National Sending Advisory Group wiki page and the roles of the staff members on the SAGe.
  • Periodically, monitor the SAGe inbox, SendingAdvisory@afsusa.org .
