Sending 101 for Volunteers

This is a great introduction for volunteers new to sending, or a refresher for experienced volunteers. This training will cover a wide range of topics, including the basics of AFS Study Abroad programs, tips for mentoring students and talking to parents, a review of the application process and common sending activities to support students in your area. We will also cover the www.afsusa.org website, the AFS Blog and Facebook, so you can direct students to these great resources.

Sending 201 for Volunteers

Sending 201 is a more in-depth continuation of Sending 101. In these training sessions we look at the AFS Sending cycle from a volunteer perspective beginning at the point when a student first learns about AFS until they come back home as a Returnee. We provide resources throughout the training to help volunteers engage with students at each step of the cycle.

Lead Management 101: Supporting Students Newly Interested in AFS

This training will give you the tools to find students in your area who are newly interested in AFS, but who have not yet submitted a preliminary application--the first step in applying. We will discuss several ways to reach out to these students to help them take the first steps.

Representing AFS in High Schools

In this training, we will cover tips on connecting with schools and educators to promote AFS as well as discuss different venues. We will also cover the basics for making an AFS school presentation. This training is great for both new and experienced sending volunteers!

Supporting your Students' Fundraising Success

These sessions are designed to help you support your students in their fundraising efforts and to also provide you with tools for successful fundraising at the Team or Chapter level.

Mentoring Students Through the Application Process

As volunteers take a more central role in supporting students through the application process, this training session will cover all you need to know, including a review of the Online Application and how to find your students in Global Link. This training is great for both new and experienced sending volunteers!

Retention 101: Keeping Students Engaged and Prepared for Take-Off

Retention 101 will cover the 5 Ws (Who, What, When, hoW, and Why) of keeping students engaged from acceptance to departure. We'll discuss the common questions that come up after applications have been submitted, but before host families are assigned or travel notifications sent. It's crucial to support students through this last stage before the real adventure begins, and this webinar will help you to do that!

Volunteer Calls

The Monthly Volunteer Call provides an interactive format for volunteers and staff to discuss sending topics, based on the season and priorities. Calls are 1 hour long and take place in a Webinar format. They are held the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PST. All volunteers are welcome!
