Public Service Announcements for Radio

The following are Public Service Announcements (PSA) promoting sending and volunteering with AFS. We want to encourage every volunteer to send them to their local radio stations. Listeners will be directed to the 1-800-AFSINFO number where staff will receive calls and forward them onto the appropriate region and volunteer team.

Many community radio stations want text for their DJs to read rather than an audio clip. They typically ask that it be about 30 seconds long when read out loud.
30 second Sending PSA Copy:
AFS IS THE BIGGEST AND GREATEST EXPERIENCE THAT I’VE HAD. AFS IS EXPERIENCING A COMPLETELY NEW CULTURE AND HAVING TO DEAL WITH A NEW WALK OF LIFE. I CAN SET MY GOALS AND I KNOW THAT I CAN HANDLE THEM BECAUSE I HANDLED THIS. IF YOU ARE BETWEEN 14 AND 25 YEARS OLD AND WANT TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN LIVE ABROAD FOR A SUMMER, A SEMESTER OR A YEAR, CALL 1-800-AFS-INFO. FINANCIAL AID IS AVAILABLE.
30 second Volunteering PSA Copy:
I VOLUNTEER WITH AFS BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. TO HELP AFS EXCHANGE STUDENTS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE HERE IN THE US. TO HAVE A GREAT TIME DOING SOMETHING I BELIEVE IN. FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS, AFS VOLUNTEERS HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE BY HELPING LOCAL COMMUNITIES LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WORLD AND ITS PEOPLE. CALL 1-800-AFS-INFO TO FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR WORLD.
Before you forward the PSA file to your local radio station, please be sure to secure a permission to do so, as unsolicited emails containing large files may be deleted for fear of containing viruses. Here is an example radio email:
Hi [Radio Station],
I volunteer for AFS-USA, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has been leading international high school student exchange for more than 60 years. We are currently looking for host families for exchange students in our community. We hope you will place the brief announcement below in your website announcements/community events listings or run a PSA for us on your station (text for the PSA is included below). If you'd like us to send you a 30-second prerecorded PSA, please let me know. Any help is appreciated.
As our exchange students prepare to leave your community to return home, we have wonderful stories to share of their experiences and accomplishments. We'd be happy to arrange interviews for you. If you'd like to know more about AFS in your community or write a story about exchange students, please let me know and I can put you in touch with local volunteers, host families, or hosted students.
