Sponsored Programs would like to extend our congratulations to all of the CBYX, FLEX, and YES students and their cluster coordinators and volunteers for an exhilarating November, with International Education Week (IEW) and contest presentations!

Each year, the Sponsored Programs department holds a contest throughout the month of November through which the winning clusters receive an all expenses paid trip to one of the Better Understanding for a Better World: Youth Leadership and Interfaith Conferences (BUBW) in Orlando, FL, San Diego, CA, or Baltimore, MD. The annual contest is held in conjunction with International Education Week, and the winning clusters are chosen based upon the highest average number of presentations per student.

As of December 5, all IEW presentation reports were submitted, and the Sponsored Programs team has begun to analyze the contest results. The winning clusters will be determined shortly. In total, students submitted 2729 presentation reports, and estimated a total of 69,554 audience members in attendance. On average, that’s 25 audience members per presentation! By far, we surpassed last year’s record number of presentations (1891) and audience estimate (53,465). Great job to all!

In addition, AFS students presented to a variety of media, ranging from radio stations to local police precincts to nationally-syndicated newspapers. On December 4, the Washington Post ran a feature on an AFS presentation from Capitol Team. Although we are only able to select 2-4 winning clusters, we would like to extend the opportunity to participate in this year’s BUBW conference to those clusters who are willing to fundraise and who also meet the criteria. You will be eligible to use up to half of your enrichment funding to subsidize your trip, provided that you remain committed to carrying out low or no cost activities throughout the remainder of the year. Please take into consideration the funding you will need to support any Malaysian students who will be arriving to your cluster in January.

This has truly been an incredible month! Thanks to all who participated or helped out!
