About the Portland Office
The Portland office is an energizing work place that simultaneously demonstrates creativity and a serious work ethic. Reflective of the greater Portland community, the Portland staff work hard, and play hard; it is not unusual to see staff in the office early in the morning or late into the night. The office atmosphere is casual (as is Portland, in general), and, like all AFS-USA offices, it is filled with individuals who are interested in a fine balance between experiential and intellectual pursuits: predominant interests among staff members include books, the arts, music, film, nature and the enjoyment of Portland's extraordinary culinary scene. Generally speaking, the Portland staff is a very active bunch; it is not unusual for some of the staff members to take early morning runs through Forest Park, to row on the Willamette, or to go rock climbing in the evenings. Others are regular bowlers, hikers, musicians, and many of the staff members continue their academic studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels. It is accurate to say that the Portland staff members are very active, engaged and interested in the world around them!
It should be noted that the Portland office staff maintain a wonderful sense of humor; the little knick-knacks which adorn some people's office spaces and walls reveal a fondness for travel, politics and playful oddities. Additionally, it should be noted that the office is not just filled with people, for there are often dogs about (Tundra, Jen Bricker's dog, has been deemed the Face-Licking Specialist, while Jen Peck's dog, Rocko, often lounges about, casually sniffing the e-Marketing area and taking in the scenery at his own leisure).
Structurally speaking, the current office building affords a lot of natural light and staff members have taken advantage of the setting by providing an abundance of plants in their workspaces and color on the walls.
The Portland office is located in the heart of downtown Portland, easily within walking distance of Powell's Books, Pioneer Square and some of the tastiest inexpensive lunches available in the area!
