Orientation Advisory Group Call Agenda and Notes - May 26, 2011
From AFSWiki
Present: Nancy, Lynne, Ruth, Christine, Ted, Robin, Mary
Agenda
- Impact of Prohibition of 15 Passenger Vans
- Nancy - uses 15 passenger vans, occasionally for luggage/gear purposes
- Lynne - team doesn't use them
- Christine - leave decision in hands of the insurance company
- Lynne - What is the next best thing? Need to provide a recommendation for alternatives to 15 passenger van, for example, lease smaller van or use personal cars. Charter a bus.
- Impact of New Team Structure on Orientations
- Support leaders are often involved in orientation as a proactive measure
- In many teams each orientation has a different coordinator
- Disadvantage - New structure allows for smaller and smaller events, less peer interaction, perhap resulting in less rich orientation experience. Would need to provide guidelines.
- Scouts - At least two adults present at all times for risk management purposes - one as a potential witness in case of sexual abuse allegations
- Best practice to have two adults - one to attend to emergencies, one to stay with rest of group
- Revision of Arrival Orientation
- We discussed each piece and Ruth took notes within each person's submission
Action Items
- Ruth will send everyone the version of her activity with notes from tonight's call
- Each person will review her section and revise time line as needed
- Each person to incorporate changes provided by others and submit to Ruth by June 1
- Ruth to compile and send handbook back to group by June 6
- Lynne will follow up with Nina re: Logistics session
- 'Robin to share notes on 15 passenger van and impact of new team structure with Scott Hume
