Opportunity to Host International Partners!
From AFSWiki
The following opportunity was communicated to Sponsored Programs Cluster Coordinators. We welcome Teams interested in hosting Sponsored Programs students!
Dear Sponsored Programs Cluster Coordinators:
Would you like to have a YES or CB Partner Representative visit your team from March 11-16, 2010?
YES! Below please find more details, including information on how to apply for this fantastic opportunity:
Who: Partner Representatives from Egypt, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mozambique, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey will be traveling to the US for the March Sponsored Programs workshop in Alexandria, VA. Our Partners are available to visit local clusters from March 11-16, before traveling to Washington DC for the workshop, where they will have the opportunity to share knowledge gained with volunteer and staff workshop participants.
Why: The Sponsored Program team is once again offering this exciting opportunity to host a Partner in order to grow Sponsored Program awareness, both sending and hosting, on the local level. Our international representatives are excellent cultural and program resources and are looking forward to not only providing insight into the YES and CB programs from their own country perspective but also to gaining valuable knowledge regarding the program’s operation at the Cluster level. In addition, their presence provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to each cluster’s host family outreach efforts.
When: The Partners will arrive into their respective host community on March 11 and will depart on March 16. All travel costs to and from the cluster will be covered.
Timeline: Thursday March 11: Partners travel from their home countries to cluster regions Friday March 12 - Monday March 15: in cluster (activities planned individually by each cluster) Tuesday March 16: Partners travel from cluster to Washington DC for Sponsored Programs Workshop
What: It’s up to you! Possible ideas for the visits would include: attendance at a volunteer meeting/activity, a school presentation, a community based organization presentation, or an Info Night that would promote hosting or sending. Please submit your proposed activities via the application attached below.
Budget: Round-trip travel costs as well as any locally incurred expenses will be covered by Sponsored Programs. Please note that Partners will be expecting to stay with a local family and not at a hotel.
How: If you are interested in this amazing opportunity, please complete the attached application and return it to Nancy Levine (nlevine@afs.org) by January 11. Final decisions, based on proposed activities and partner availability, will be communicated to you by approximately mid-January.
