National Council Communication - November 2010
From AFSWiki
At its October face-to-face meeting in Minneapolis, the National Council developed specific action plans for each of its 2010-2011 goals. These goals are documented in the AFS Wiki here National Council 2010 Goals. One of their focus goals is to “continue to develop and implement an effective, broad-based communication plan that communicates organizational and National Council priorities to volunteers and other constituencies.” For this goal, they committed to producing a monthly article in the Coming Together Newsletter. Each of these articles will be authored by a different National Council member. This article is the first of this ongoing series.
Why is this important?
AFS-USA is not just a collection of boards and committees. Nor is it just a collection of dedicated individual volunteers and staff members. While each of us has our own part to play in the overall organization it also requires that we all work toward the same set of objectives. Working together we can accomplish much. This is the reason why we have yearly goals. But it also requires us to have a continual focus on those goals so that we can work toward accomplishing them. By keeping this focus we will be able to look back at the end of the year and be able to see if we have accomplished them.
What can I look forward to?
As noted above, you can expect to see an article like this in each issue of the Coming Together Newsletter. Each will deal with a different topic – either one of our focus goals, or one of our ongoing responsibilities. Some, like this one, will talk about a goal that we have just begun working on; others will show the progress that has been made at the time the article is written. For this particular focus goal, if we get to the end of the year (June 30, 2011) and see that there has been an article in each newsletter, then we will have accomplished it. Some of the other goals are not that straightforward.
What if I want more details?
