Purpose
The Mission Award recognizes an individual who holds or has held a volunteer leadership role at the Chapter, Team, Regional or National Level (Example – Team or Chapter Chair, National Council member etc) and has made a significant impact in that role through their leadership.
Description of Award
- 1 National Award is awarded each year with 2010 being the inaguaral year.
- Flight to designated partner country which will vary each year. In 2011 flight will be to a Latin American country and will likely include a homestay.
Eligibility
- currently registered volunteer as well as having been a registered volunteer during the time of leadership If you are unsure if you meet this requirement, please email volunteer registration before you apply.
- have not traveled internationally on AFS sponsored trip/award within the past 2 years at the time of application (not including task force/work group trips)
- currently hold or have held a leadership position at the chapter, Team and/or national level
- at least 25 years of age
- hold a current passport
- able to provide an (electronic) report of and give a presentation in front of a large group about your experience
Timeline
Applications being accepted until September 15, 2011.
Application
Application and two references must be received electronically
To apply, please submit application and two references to volunteer recognition.
- Volunteers can be nominated by another volunteer or staff by filling out the above required forms on their behalf. However, application must be approved by the applicant to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
Selection
The Mission Award Selection Subcommittee of the Volunteer Recognition Committee reviews all qualified applications, scores them using a rubric, and selects a winner.
This subcommittee is comprised of volunteers from across the country.
