This article describes several different ways of generating general, overall, interest and leads for participating in AFS. For leads specific to sending students, see: Recruiting Sending Leads. For leads specific to host families, see: finding host families.

Focus on local high schools

  • Develop volunteers who excel at the It's Your World (IYW) presentation.
  • Participate in high school's open houses or "back to school nights" that often occur about a month after school starts, each fall. For specific ideas on organizing this, see High School Open House Recruiting.
  • Place notices in PTA newsletters.
  • Request that school websites link to your Team website .
  • Speak at local school board meeting
  • Speak at organizational meetings before school starts each year with various target teachers on a system wide basis (examples are foreign language teacher, social students teachers, counselors and principals)

Represent AFS in the local community

Increase exposure for AFS in local media

Engage current and recent participants
