Info night talking points sample
From AFSWiki
A sample of what to cover during an info night. An assumption behind this particular set of points is that students have already heard the basics of AFS during a school presentation, and the info night is mostly an opportunity for the candidates and their parents to discuss their concerns.
- Introduce all the AFS volunteers
- All volunteers tell the story of what they’ve done with AFS and why they continue to do it
- History and general facts about AFS
- Why AFS:
- Over 60 years of experience
- About 13,000 kids travel abroad with AFS each year
- Large support network means that if something happens, there are multiple people nearby to help resolve the crisis
- Volunteer-based so you're dealing with people who truly want you to have a great experience
- Self-introductions of attendees: share one reason to go abroad and one concern about exchange program participation
- Financial concerns: describe scholarship options, qualifications, deadlines.
- Q&A: "seed" the conversation by asking some returnees what their biggest challenge was, or how AFS changed their life, or what they least expected, or to describe a "peak experience" they had while abroad, etc.
- Conclusion: make sure everyone knows who to contact with further questions
