Accountability
The IT Advisory Group is accountable to the AFS-USA Director of IT. Any work done by the advisory group which leads to changes, additions or revisions to policies, procedures, or structure which fall under the National Council’s decision making authority will be presented to the National Council for input and final approval before moving forward.
Overall Objective
The AFS USA IT Advisory Group’s overall objective is to make recommendations and provide input in areas of technology to the IT Director from a volunteer prospective and the individual members IT background. This advisory group will support the IT Strategy which is to provide modern tools to all our constituents, resulting in a technical environment which encourages collaboration and efficiencies, along with supporting new opportunities and needs of the AFS USA.
Specific Objectives
On going items will be to make sure that volunteers needs are taken into account when AFS USA IT systems are designed, and to make sure there are sufficient resources available to train and provide support for AFS volunteers on the IT systems.
The ITAG will be the conduit between staff, volunteers and the following IT groups:
- Global Link Super Users and the GL Help Desk.

- Wiki Systems Administrators
- Ask for help at Sysadmin@afswiki.org
- Wiki Content/Policy Group
- afsusa.org Email Domain Administrators

Membership
The committee will be composed of four volunteers and the Director of the IT Department. The staff and the volunteers who are currently members of this group are as follows:
- Meryl Lewis, Director of IT
- Rich Senften - Heartland KS Team, chairperson
- Al Russell – DelMarPa Team
- Francesca Lippi - One World Team
- David Klawiter - One World Team
Method of Election/Appointment
- Volunteers will be selected by the Director of IT , who will attempt to have a balance of backgrounds and experiences.
- At least one member of the group will be a current working volunteer from the AFS Wiki System Administrators and one current working SuperUser from the Global Link SuperUser group. Additional members may be added from new volunteer IT organizations in the future.
- The chairperson will be selected by the group.
Committee Term and Method of Appointment
Members will be asked to serve a minimum of two years. At the end of each two year term the Director of IT may ask each member to serve an additional two year term or may replace members based on the number of volunteers expressing an interest in serving on this advisory group.
Frequency and Methodology of Meetings
- The committee will meet by phone conference as needed determined by the Chair and or the Director of IT.
- There will be regular email correspondence.
- Additional meetings may be called as necessary.
- The progress and outcomes of this committee will be regularly communicated to other AFS-USA volunteers, via the monthly “Coming Together” newsletter, as well as by emails to leadership volunteers, as needed.
