AFS-USA Volunteer Position Description

Objective:
A Hosting Lead Recipient receives automatic email notifications when a hosting interest form is completed on the AFS-USA website by an interested person in the Hosting Lead Recipient’s designated area (Chapter or Team). The Hosting Lead Recipient is responsible for ensuring that the lead is contacted by an AFS volunteer within five days and for relaying information about that contact to the regional hosting staff and appropriate hosting volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that hosting leads from the web are contacted within five days by themselves or another local volunteer
- Update the Regional Hosting Coordinator and appropriate local Hosting Volunteers about the host lead’s interest and viability for hosting including pertinent comments
- Provide accurate information to hosting leads and volunteers regarding AFS hosting programs, policies, and procedures
- Work with volunteer Hosting Coordinator to coordinate follow-up by local volunteers to convert hosting leads into host families.
Time Required:
- 1-5 hours per week depending on volume of interest and size of chapter/team
- Length of Service: Negotiable, though one academic or calendar year is preferred.
Responsible to:
- Team/Chapter Hosting Coordinator
- If Hosting Lead Recipient is the Team/Chapter Hosting Coordinator, then responsible to Team/Chapter Chair and Regional Hosting Coordinator
Competencies Required:
- Well-organized
- Effective at task delegation
- Comfortable calling hosting leads to talk about the value of hosting with AFS
- Ability to respond to email and phone messages in a timely manner
- Strong communication skills
Training:
- Participation in regional or national conferences or training events
- Ongoing support from Regional Service Center
- Peer-to-peer training available
