Hosting Volunteer

The Hosting Volunteer serves as the fundamental local AFS hosting representative. This role is responsible for host family recruitment in a defined area, ensuring contact is maintained with prospective host families, and coordinating the initiation of their application process. Community outreach is an objective for this position in supporting Host Family Lead generation.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively recruit host families through 'word of mouth' advertising and community outreach efforts
  • Work with Team Hosting Coordinator to ensure timely follow up with hosting leads
  • Support Host Family leads with the Host Family Application process in conjunction with the Host family application coordinator
  • Assist with coordination of local Host Family interviews in conjunction with the Host family interviewer
  • Work with schools in guaranteeing student placement permission
  • Provide input to Hosting Coordinator for goal setting, planning worksheets, and outreach & recruitment activities
  • Effectively use AFS Global database for coordination of leads & Host Families
  • Adhere to AFS-USA, AFS International, CSIET and State Department guidelines and quality standards which includes, but is not limited to placement deadlines, completed host family applications and criminal background checks

Time Required:

  • 7 to 12 hours per week (peak season - March to June), 2 to 5 hours per week (off peak season - Sept to March); **note - peak season varies per Team and chapter needs
  • Length of Service: Negotiable, though two hosting cycles or calendar years is preferred with completion of training

  • Knowledge of AFS Programs and requirements to support and promote interested host families and school relations
  • Comfortable working with Online applications
  • Very Good organization skills
  • Ability to track leads and follow up in a timely manner
  • Personal Communications skills for outreach and internal accountability
