Please find below definitions of statuses used in relation to hosting distribution and the stages of host family placement.

Preview The student can be viewed by all area teams, but only requests to family place or place without papers can be made. The preview status will expire at a designated time (usually Sunday at 9 p.m. EST)
Area Team Assigned ATA The student has been selected for the assigned area team, usually to fulfill a wish list request for a specific family or a specific school. When a student is in ATA status, only staff and volunteers from the assigned area team can see the student's application on AFS Online.
Regionally Available RA The student is available for any area team in the region to request to area team hold, community place, family place or school place.
Area Team Hold ATH An Area Team has reserved the student to try and place him/her. The hold will prevent any other team from being able to place the student during that time. The hold will last for 5 days.
Community Placed CP An Area Team has committed to placing the student but does not yet have a confirmed family for him/her.
School Placed SP The student is placed in a school, however a host family has not been secured yet.
Placed without Papers PWP A family is interested in hosting a student, but has not yet been fully screened and accepted to host (ie- missing host family paperwork or background checks). At this point families are not allowed to communicate with the selected student.
Family Papers Mailed FPM Host family has been screened and accepted to host, which means we’ve received complete host family paperwork (with the exception of the PAF as long as we have at least a verbal approval from the host school), and background checks have been finalized. At this point the host family application has been sent to the partner country to share with the hosted student, and host family-student correspondence is approved. Note- we must receive a signed PAF prior to student arrival.
Family Placement Confirmed FPC All requirements for FPM have been met, and a signed Placement Acceptance Form (PAF) from the host school has been received.
