Hosting Recruitment Calls
From AFSWiki
NOTES
• Most students arrive in August and stay until the end of June; a small number leave in January. Some students arrive in January and leave in June.
• Host families select the student they would like to host. Local volunteers often work with the family to find the best match. Not all countries/personalities/interests are available in each community. Rather than getting a cookie cutter student, the point of hosting is the experience.
• All families must complete an online application, submit references and complete a background check. Local volunteers will also do an in-home interview. All families must also attend an orientation.
• Each family and student is assigned a local liaison who checks in with them on at least a monthly basis and is their first contact if any problems arise. The local support is what makes AFS stand out!
