Host Family Recruitment Tool Kit

In response to volunteer requests, the AFS Hosting Team has put together a new resource for both new and experienced Hosting Volunteers. We are happy to provide new materials for you to use during the hosting cycle in order to more easily find host families for the amazing students arriving in August. It is our sincere hope that these tool kits will make you feel more confident and professional during your recruitment activities. In your host family recruitment tool kit, you will find the following resources and their intended uses:

• Sample print materials including a booklet, self mailing booklet, brochures, posters and tear off posters;

• Messenger bag to carry your materials when visiting schools and families, and attending events;

• Personalized name badge to identify yourself as an AFS USA Volunteer in the community;

• Hosting Passport Learning Guide to refer to for hosting processes and procedures;

• CSIET Guide to share with high school administrators during school visits;

• DVD to show to potential host families to highlight hosting YES students;

• Flash drive to store your relevant documents and refer to important hosting files;

• Clipboard to keep all of your paperwork in one central place;

• Roll of 100 stickers to give out at events; and

• 5 pens to give out at events.

As we enter the peak season for identifying families to host the 2500 students arriving in the US in August, we encourage all teams and chapters to make sure their Hosting Volunteers have the Host Family Recruitment Tool Kit. The tool kit makes it easy for new volunteers to find families in communities where AFS can have a stronger presence.

Additional Resources for your Tool Kit

•If you would like extra copies of the Raising Arizona Kids DVD, please email hosting@afs.org with "Marketing Materials Order" as the subject line and specify the item name, quantity, date needed by and preferred mailing address.

•We also now have new ad slicks featuring both hosting and sending. Go to Combined Hosting and Sending Ads to see the various options available. These ads are great to include in school event programs and yearbooks, as well as in local newspapers.

What Recipients Are Saying About the Tool Kit

"Thank you so much for putting together the toolkit and getting it out to everyone.  The materials look great and will help us all do a better job of recruiting families."

"I received mine today and it looks awesome!  My 8th grader was looking at it too and admiring how cool it is.   Thank you so much- all of you who helped make it happen.  Being better prepared will help us be better recruiters for AFS.  I can't wait to read through all the information and see what is on the disk and flash drive. "

"Thank you for the great package that came to me Saturday.  I love the AFS bag and especially the AFS flash drive!  I'm going to a parent meeting at MICDS on Friday and will wear my AFS name tag and take along some of the materials. I really, really liked your toolkit!"

"Received the tool kit and it is beautiful!  Thanks so much!"

"The hosting package arrived at my home yesterday.  What a wonderful surprise and inspiring packet of new materials.  Thank you for all your input into this packet.  It can’t help but boost the moral of our field volunteers and staff."

"Please, please, please pass on a big thank-you to the powers that be with AFS for sending me such a great bag of goodies! I love the name tag, bag, stickers, clip board, zip drive and all the goodies. What a fun surprise :)"

"Received the host family recruitment package in the mail today! Thank you SO much for sending everything. I love the name tag and printed info. It will be great to move student apps from home to wherever with the flash drive when I go on interviews. I really appreciate everything AFS does to support its volunteer 'staff.'"

"I received my kit today. Thank you so much for the kit. Everything was great, can definitely tell a lot of thought went into the kit. Way to go. Job well done! Thanks again for the kit...it's greatly appreciated!"

"It is fantastic!  I finally feel as if I can go out speaking and present a totally professional image.  The name tag was especially needed; schools want to assure the program's authenticity and (in spite of over 60 years experience) so many are still unaware of AFS and its strengths.  Thanks!"

"The kit has arrived and I'm really impressed.  Will take the official looking bag with me on a family interview tomorrow!"
