Handling Challenging Behavior by Volunteers
From AFSWiki
Do you feel as if you or other volunteer leaders in your team must tolerate poor behavior by volunteers because they are volunteers? The latest Everyone Ready® online volunteer management seminar will stretch your thinking and give you practical suggestions for dealing with volunteers who perform in a way that detracts from the task at hand or is detrimental to the organization.
This month's Everyone Ready® topic is entitled, "Handling Challenging Behavior by Volunteers" and is available through February 20. After February 20, the seminar will be available in the "archived topics" of the Everyone Ready® site until mid-March.
All AFS-USA volunteers and staff can access the monthly Everyone Ready® topics online, via the "Resources" tab in Global Link.
After completing this seminar and discussing its content, participants will be able to:
- Understand why volunteers sometimes behave poorly or challenge organization authority.
- Analyze problem behavior situations to determine their likely true causes.
- Develop a system in which models of good behavior are set forward for volunteers.
- Explore examples of challenging behavior and see ways to channel that behavior into positive actions.
- Understand how to deal with volunteers whose behavior cannot be corrected and is potentially detrimental to the organization.
