2011 Emerging Leader Award winners named!
Please join the Volunteer Recognition Committee (VRC) in congratulating the two AFS volunteers who have been selected to receive the first AFS Emerging Leader Awards!
Lisa George, of Ohio, a member of the Northeast Ohio Team, and Danielle Tye-Neaveill, of Missouri, a member of the Kansas City Team, will receive the 2011 Emerging Leader Awards. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes an individual, under 30 years old, who shows the potential to be a future leader within the AFS volunteer structure of teams or chapters. They were nominated by AFS volunteers in a leadership position on a team.
Lisa and Danielle will be invited to attend, and recognition of the award will be made at, the National Volunteer Assembly (NVA) Conference. The NVA will be April 27-29, 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Purpose
The Emerging Leader Award recognizes an individual who shows the potential to be a future leader within the AFS volunteer structure of teams or chapters.
Description of Award
- Recognition of the award to be made at the National Volunteer Assembly Conference in April 27-29 of 2012 in Charlotte, NC.
- Recognition of one individual in each of the 3 regions of AFS, the West, the Central and the East.
Eligibility
- A registered volunteer for 2 years as of the application deadline.
- Under the age of 30 by deadline of application.
- Be able to attend the NVA Conference in Charlotte, NC April 27-29, 2012
- Be able to put together a short slide show that would be presented at the NVA.
Timeline
- Applications and references will be accepted July 1st through September 15th.
- Nominations will be accepted July 1 to September 1.
- Awards will be announced in early October.
Application
- Application, nomination and 1 reference, must be received electronically. Please email to: volrecognition@afsusa.org
- Nomination must come from an AFS volunteer in a leadership position on a team or chapter.
- Reference can be from any person not related to applicant over the age of 18.
- Application is available on the AFS Wiki site. Application will not be accepted unless a nomination has been received.
Selection
The Emerging Leader Award Subcommittee of the National Volunteer Recognition Committee reviews all qualified applications, scores them using a rubric, and selects the winners.
