A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 struck off the coast of Northeast Japan around 3:00pm on March .11, 2011 followed by a tsunami wave.

Currently there are no SH participants hosted in Japan and there are no NH participants staying in the Northeast of Japan, near the epicenter of the quake.

So far staff in the Tokyo office have heard no reports of damages or injuries of hosted participants, host families or natural families.

Support staff will coordinate a communication plan today to ensure that we have checked in with all Japanese students hosted in the USA.
In the meantime, if you are a liaison of a Japanese hosted participant, please contact him or her as soon as possible to share the above information and offer support.
