AFS-USA Volunteer Position Description
Congress Bundestag Selection Committee Facilitator
Responsible to: CB Selection Committee Chair
General Description: CB Selection Committee Facilitators provide a forum for questions about CB, Germany and AFS programs for CB candidates and their parents in the waiting area at the CB Selection Committee.
Time Required:
- approximately 8 hours total depending on number of CB candidates assigned to their Selection Committee
- once a year between January and February
Competencies Required:
- Flexible
- Dependable
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Preferably CB or AFS returnee
- Ability to make people feel comfortable
- Enjoy talking to students and parents
- Ability to answer student and parent questions about AFS, the exchange experience, Germany and if possible, the CB program
Training:
- Briefing by Selection Committee Chair either before or on Selection Committee day

Responsibilities:
- Assist the chairperson in setting up the meeting facility
- Provide a forum for questions about CB, Germany and AFS programs for CB candidates and their parents at the Selection Committee
- Help conversion of CB non-winners to AFS students by promoting general AFS programs to CB candidates and their parents
- Potentially provide input on students’ social skills to committee interviewers and chair once all interviews are completed
- Create activities to help the group ask questions or prompt discussions about the exchange experience
