AFS-USA Volunteer Position Description

Congress Bundestag Selection Committee Chair

Responsible to: CB Specialist

General Description: The CB Selection Committee chair organizes the logistics of the Selection Committee in his/her area and recruits Selection Committee Interviewers and Facilitators. CB Selection Committee Chairs also participate as voting members in the CB Selection Committee in their area. As part of the Selection Committee they conduct individual interviews as well as a group interview with all CB candidates assigned to their Selection Committee. Before the Selection Committee takes place they review and score the written CB application of each CB candidate attending this Selection Committee.

Time Required:

  • approximately 15 hours total depending on number of CB candidates assigned to their Selection Committee
  • once a year between December and February

Training:

  • 1 hour Conference Call with CB Specialist and SP Admissions Advisor and other Selection Committee chairs in late December or early January

Materials/Resources Provided by AFS:

  • Congress-Bundestag Selection Committee Guidelines and Procedures
  • Written CB applications of all candidates attending their Selection Committee
  • Info material about Germany for display at the Selection Committee

Responsibilities:

  • Set a date for the Selection Committee
  • Locate a suitable space
  • Recruit 3-6 Selection Committee Interviewers and 1-2 Facilitators
  • Develop a schedule for the day
  • Welcome and provide an overview of the day to the Selection Committee members and CB candidates
  • Facilitate the individual and group interviews
  • Review and score all written CB applications that are sent to them before the day of the Selection Committee.
  • Conduct an individual standardized interview with each CB candidate at their Selection Committee together with the other Selection Committee Interviewers and score each student’s performance.
  • Observe CB candidates participating in a group exercise at the Selection Committee and score each of them based on their performance.
  • Rank all CB candidates of this Selection Committee based on the students’ scores together with the other Selection Committee interviewers and the Selection Committee chair.
  • Collect all scoring materials and expense reports and send them back to the SP Admissions Advisor
  • Ensure that all Selection Committee interviews and scoring are conducted in compliance with the rules and regulations outlined in the “Guidelines and Procedures” document
