Step 1: Collecting Leads

Step 2: NEW Process - Send Completed Lead Cards to the Portland Office

  • Once you have collected your leads, you no longer have to enter them in to a spreadsheet. Instead, all staff and volunteers should mail or scan and email them to the Portland office following this set of instructions:
  1. Mail or scan and email ALL Lead Cards to the Portland office within 48 hours of your presentation (Attention Sarah Owens at sendingteam@afs.org or AFS-USA, Attention Sarah Owens, 506 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97204)
  2. Print and complete this Cover Sheet to include with your Lead Cards - be sure to bundle your Lead Cards by EVENT and include a completed Cover Sheet with EACH presentation.
  3. You will receive an email confirmation that your Lead Cards have been received. For questions regarding this new process, please email Sarah Owens at sendingteam@afs.org.


AFS staff will enter them into Salesforce, the lead management database. This will trigger a number of activities by Sending Staff including: periodic mailings, sending of an AFS catalog, regular email contact. The goal of all of these activities is to encourage the student to enter a pre-application. However, this is not a process that should only be done by the AFS staff. Local sending volunteers should also be involved in the process, as it is often that personal local contact that will turn the student's interest into action.
