Chapter Support Coordinator
The Chapter Support Coordinator oversees all AFS student, host family, and natural family support within the chapter, monitoring student adjustment and dealing with host family issues as they arrive.
Responsible to:
- Chapter Chair
Time Required:
- 10-15 hours per month
- Length of service time: 2 year minimum commitment
Competencies Required:
- Well organized
- Excellent relationship and team-building skills
- Negotiating, mediating, recognizing other, problem-solving
- Keeps commitments
- Effective at task delegation
- Passion for the AFS mission
Training:
- Participation at national conferences or regional/local training events
- Ongoing support from Regional Service Center and national staff
- Peer-to-peer training and/or mentoring available
Works with:
Responsibilities:
- Arrange for a liaison to be assigned to all host families and their students
- Ensure liaison receives training and orientation
- Ensure that monthly documented contact is maintained with hosted students, host families, and school personnel
- Serve as the key link between the chapter and the Team Support Coordinator on cases which involve communication to partner countries
- Develop a local network of "emergency families" for students in transition
- Develop a network of health professionals that may be called upon in emergencies
- Report any serious cases to the AT Support Coordinator
