AFS-USA Position Description

Chapter Sending Coordinator

The AFS Local Team Sending Coordinator develops and implements a student recruitment plan that meets local Team goals and ensures adherence to AFS-USA standards and mission.

Responsible to: Chapter Chair and Team Sending Coordinator

Time Required:

  • 5 hours per week

  • Passion for the AFS mission

Training:

  • Participation at national conferences or regional/local training events
  • Ongoing support from Regional Service Center and national staff
  • Peer-to-peer training and/or mentoring available

Works with:

  • Staff
    • Regional Sending Staff
  • Volunteer
    • Chapter Leadership
    • Chapter sending volunteers

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Chapter Chair and Team Sending Coordinator to set goals consistent with Team outbound program commitments.
  • Develop an annual student recruitment plan, including action steps, dates, target communities/schools, and distribution of volunteer tasks.
  • Ensure placement of posters, flyers and other promotional materials in local schools within Local Team.
  • Maintain contact with key school personnel.
  • Manage speaker's bureau of returnees (or other trained individuals) making school and other public presentations, such as AFS Information Nights.
  • Maintain list of students who have expressed interest in AFS programs.
  • Ensure inquiries are followed up on within 7 days.
  • Ensure prospective AFS students are interviewed in accordance to AFS-USA standards.
  • Work with appropriate Team volunteer to ensure student orientation.
  • Maintain contact with students and natural families during the application process, acting as their primary resource person.
  • Submit complete Admissions Packets to the Team Sending Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Inventory student recruitment materials and re-order as needed.
  • Provide periodic updates on student recruitment progress to Chapter Chair and Team Sending Coordinator.
