  • See Lead-generating activities for help creating sending leads as well as hosting leads.
  • Target Rotary scholarship applicants. Rotary cannot send all the students who apply for its exchange program. The Rotary deadline is October 15th for applications.
  • Involve returnees. Many, if not most, of our applicants each year are connected to a Returnee through social relationships, shared classes at school, or even proximity in a small neighborhood.
  • Before approaching a new high school, it helps to know the economic realities of the surrounding community. This will help you decide, for example, whether most applicants from the school will need scholarship aid in order to afford an AFS program. To get a quick statistical read on any community in the U.S., the Census Bureau has an American FactFinder.
  • Partner with 4H, Girl and Boy Scouts.
  • Find a champion for AFS in the school.
  • Include school contact info in your Team Roster.
  • Remember to mention to leads that they can save $25 off their pre-application fee by using the Promo Code VOLd5Xp9632!
