Arrival Orientations in NH 2011
From AFSWiki
As Arrival dates near we’d like to take the opportunity to remind volunteers of some important information about Arrival Orientations this cycle.
As communicated to all Chairs, Hosting Coordinators, Orientation Coordinators and Support Coordinators via email on May 24, 2011, AFS-USA will have three Arrivals in 2011 and local teams are to conduct an Arrival Orientation for each wave of arrivals on which they receive students, including second and third arrival. Second and third Arrival Orientations will not be run at the national level.
Special thanks to all volunteers involved in Arrival Orientations for providing a warm welcome to students during the first days of their AFS experience!

Arrival Orientation FAQs
- In the case of second and third arrival orientations, an overnight is not required. However, all Arrival Orientation content must be covered and students must be rested enough in order to be able to participate. (If students have traveled for very long hours across multiple time zones, an overnight would be recommended in order to allow them to recover from their travels before participating in the orientation.)
- Sponsored Programs students not arriving in time for one of the team's scheduled Arrival Orientations should attend the team's next Arrival Orientation. If there are no subsequent orientations, volunteers should conduct a one-on-one or small group orientation with the student/s within seven days of arrival.
- All Orientation Coordinators and Group Leaders for student and host family orientations need to be registered volunteers who have completed the Department of State Mandated Training Modules.
- All liaisons must be fully screened as host families in order to host a student regardless of the reason or length of time, including a short stay between the time a participant arrives and the time of arrival orientation. They must complete the full Event or Host Family Application, including an in-home interview, submitting references, and undergoing new Criminal Background Checks (CBCs)
- Volunteers should contact their Regional Travel and Logistics Coordinator with any questions related to Arrivals and Arrival Orientations (see below).
