  • Review Project Plan* (Posted earlier on wiggio, reviewed)
    • Parallel teams from each country - U.S. and Indonesia (5 members in each) - will work on two separate culture-specific hostfamily handbooks, one for American parents hosting Indonesians, and one for Indonesian parents hosting American students. Each country group will focus on creating a book for parents from their own country. Pairs of members, one from each team, will collaborate, to help each other understand specific aspects of each others' culture. Steps in the work process will include:
      • Survey of hostparents from the past three years.
      • Analysis of survey responses, to identify common areas of intercultural misunderstanding.
      • Literature review.
      • Presentation of findings and determination of sections needed for handbooks.
      • In-country meeting, Indonesia.
      • Writing of draft of handbook.
      • In-country meeting in the U.S.
      • Review of draft of handbook.
      • Publication and distribution of handbook.

  • Updates from partners
  • Indonesia, per Diar Andiani
    • Timeline:
      • Depart US late 11/19
      • Homestay: 21-24
      • Meeting: 25-28
      • Return Travel: late 11/28
  • This schedule would be good for Indonesian volunteers, who could meet on the weekend. American volunteers could minimize days off from work. November 25, the first day of that meeting, will be American Thanksgiving, a nice opportunity for some intercultural sharing. Ideas for how to make that evening's meal special should be shared with the group.
  • India and Indonesia
    • It was agreed that team members would be discouraged from bringing travel partners for the period of meetings and homestay, as that will all be considered work time, and that any additional travel arrangements for spouses or others before or after the official HOW in-country work period would have to be handled by the parties concerned, and not by AFS.
