AFS and You Quiz Activity

This activity is appropriate for use in:

• Host Family Pre-Arrival orientation

Goal

The goal of this activity is to acquaint participants with the AFS rules and support structure and the contents of the Host Family Handbook.

Objectives

By the end of this activity participants will be able to:

• Describe the support structure of AFS;
• Identify their liaison and other local and/or Team Support volunteers;
• Identify the contents of the Host Family Handbook.

Materials

• Host Family Handbook – one per family
• Flip Chart and marker
• AFS Quiz and Answer Sheet
• Optional: 3-5 small prizes such as AFS merchandise

Preparation

1. Record your local/Team Support contact info on a flip chart, overhead or chalkboard for all to see and provide a handout of the same one per family.
2. Review the AFS Quiz Answer Sheet to familiarize yourself with the correct answers to the Quiz
3. Note the sections of the Host Family Handbook to which you will refer while discussing the answers to the Quiz.

Part I: AFS Quiz

Duration: 20 minutes

• Refer participants to the AFS Quiz in the Host Family Handbook and allow 5 minutes for the family to complete the Quiz individually or as a group. They may refer to their Host Family Handbook for help.
• Review the answers as a group, making sure to cover the answers provided and refer family members to appropriate sections in the Host Family Handbook in the process. Optional – award a small prize for those who got the most correct answers.
