Responsible to:

Area Team (AT) Liaison Coordinator and/or Area Team Support Coordinator

Time Required:

  • 5-10 hours per month

Qualifications:

  • Registered AFS Volunteer
  • Annual AFS Liaison Training
  • 21 years of age or older

Training:

  • Liaisons will be provided with training, materials, and on-going support from a designated AT volunteer and/or AFS staff member.
  • Peer-to-peer training and/or mentoring is available.

Competencies Required:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Able to set and honor commitments
  • Well-developed communication skills
  • Able to follow-up in a timely manner when information is needed/missing
  • Basic computer skills, email, and internet access

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and document monthly student and host family contact and quarterly contact with schools
  • Provide support and information to the student, host family, and school.
  • Assist in problem solving if and when the need arises.
  • Identify potential problems early when they can be solved more easily before they become deeper misunderstandings which are more difficult to resolve.
