AFS Wiki Contributors

We have a small but merry band of AFS volunteers and staff constructing this wiki. We'd love more help! Please send a note to sysadmin@afswiki.org if you're interested.

  • Julie Baker -- (AFS Staff) Julie is one of our sysadmins, primarily focused on serving the administrative needs of other AFS staff
  • Jeff Dooley -- San Diego AT Jeff has added much content related to the liaison and sending volunteer roles.
  • Jim Dooley --San Diego AT--San Diego Area Volunteer hosting coordinator; served as hosting coordinator for two years, my wife and I have hosted three AFS exchange students; a retired engineer, I plan to help provide content for the hosting section.
  • Nate Glissmeyer -- Nate is a CB returnee, is part of the AFS IT Advisory Group, and was responsible for turning on afswiki.org. He's been our main system administrator since launch.
  • Al Russell -- DelMarPa AT -- has designed much of the structure for the wiki as of January, 2007. For the pilot, Al will focus on content related to sending.
  • John Ruzic -- San Francisco Bay AT -- Has been a volunteer in the San Francisco Bay AT for 2 years, and prior to that was a volunteer in the Silver and Gold AT since 1996. He has volunteered to be a tester and assist with putting together the Liaison section of the Wiki.
  • Rachel Salvay -- San Francisco Bay AT -- Rachel is a returnee & current liaison helping with the pilot AFSWiki efforts
  • Jonathan Shakes -- Greater Puget Sound AT -- stole a lot of AFS Terms from AFS Online to help make AFS lingo a bit less daunting to the newcomer. For the pilot, Jonathan will focus on content related to being a treasurer, which is a good learning exercise for him since he's just joined the finance committee of AFS-USA's board of directors.
  • Scott Stocker -- San Francisco Bay AT -- is the director of web communications at Stanford University. Scott has graciously volunteered to be a tester of our pilot.

Milestones

  • 2006.12.14 Nate Glissmeyer turns the lights on this project, using his own website www.nateg.com as a temporary home.
  • 2007.01.31 Nate Glissmeyer and Jeff Dooley move the project to www.afswiki.org.
  • 2007.02.02 Al Russell completes basic set of sending-process pages
  • 2007.07.29 At the request of AFSers concerned about unedited pages providing misleading information to AFS's critics, Nate changes the access configuration. People who are not logged in can no longer see most of the Wiki's content. Specially protected pages can only be edited by those with higher-level access privileges.
  • 2007.09.08 Jonathan Shakes presents the AFS-USA Wiki site to a group of Volunteers at the National AFS-USA Leadership Summit in Chicago, IL. All Volunteer attendees are given their login information and urged to join the AFS USA Wiki mission.
  • 2007.11.07 The wiki is announced to over 6000 registered AFS Volunteers, 1000 per day over the course of a week. The number of users quickly jumps from about 150 to about 350. As of this date, there have been about 30,000 page-views of the Wiki's content.
  • 2008.07.22 As of today, there are 897 registered users, and the wiki has had over 92,000 page-views. The AFS Online Library is scheduled to be shut down for general access, in favor of the AFS Wiki, on August 1.
  • 2008.11.20 As of today, there are 1251 registered users, and the wiki has had over 143,000 page-views and 12,000 page edits since the wiki was setup. There are 1059 pages considered by MediaWiki standards to be "probably legitimate content pages". The National Council has included a Wiki Advisory Committee as part of its structure, and Raymond Myers leads the group.
