Name: Alan (Al) Russell

Hometown: Zionsville, PA

Reason for running: to use my experience in multiple areas of AFS activities (see my current roles below), together with the management and organizational skills from my education and work experience in ways that can best benefit the needs of AFS.

Three key issues: (1) to continue to deploy the processes, procedures, and modern tools/technology that can help each AFS-USA volunteer in their chosen roles; (2) to streamline decision making so that the right people are making the right decisions for the right reasons; and (3) to effectively communicate so that each volunteer is aware of the the decisions that affect them (both before they are made so the volunteers can comment if they so choose, and afterwards so they can take appropriate action)

Education: BS/Computer Science, MS/Computer Science, MBA/Management, PhD/Information Systems

Hosted/Sent: Host brother 1966-67 (Norwegian sister with whom I am still in contact), Sending Parent 1997- 98 (NOR), multiple Host Parent (HKG, GHN, THA, SUI, numerous short-term) Currently serving as: Chapter chair, chapter hosting chair, AT sending chair, IT Advisory Group chair, National Council Communications Committee, Hosting Orientation Workgroup (chair of THA team), orientations volunteer, CB Selection Committee chair, Global Link superuser

Other relevant experience: extensive international travel (business), currently volunteering as Director of Admissions and International Student Coordinator for regional Christian high school with 18% international students

Clubs, organizations: serving/chairing several non-profit boards and committees
